Micachu Micachu Micachu (& Listen@MBV: Micachu)

In case you hadn’t noticed, we of Team MBV pooled together today to tell you about an album that we’re all really into: Micachu & the ShapesJewellery.

Micachu has been posted about here before, but everyone is weighing in today. Matthew talks about “Calculator,” which is my favorite track from the record. Frank offers up a thoughtful review of Jewellery, and echoes a lot of the reactions that I had when I first heard Mica Levi’s songs. David relates his serendipitous discovery of Micachu’s “Golden Phone,” and Sean’s got a bit of a different angle on things, as he writes not about Jewellery, but rather, Mica’s mixtape, Filthy Friends (downloadable here at Last.FM).

Jewellery is out TODAY in the UK ( Vinyl | Digital | CD ), and will be released on 4/7 in the US (Preorder). Micachu has a slew of shows lined up for SXSW, AND (lucky us) they just announced 3 NYC dates:

3/23 Cake Shop
3/24 Death By Audio
3/25 Piano’s

Oh, and did I mention that we have the full album stream? We do. But there’s a catch: it’s streaming TODAY only! So I very strongly urge you to listen while you still can…

  5. kittens says:

just what we need: a vampire weekend for 2009.

  6. Kathryn says:

not sure how michachu is in any way remotely like vampire weekend, but everyone is intitled their own opinion i guess

  7. kittens says:

sorry, i guess i just can’t help but look at all the breathless press coverage this (decent, but certainly not exceptional) album is generating and be reminded of weekend’s ballistic trajectory through the blogosphere.

  8. Kathryn says:

I thought Animal Collective was this years Vampire Weekend. or what about Grizzly Bear, they’re already becoming the new this years Vampire Weekend!

  9. kittens says:

and if i may direct a more constructive comment to the mbv staff: would it be possible to change the little file preview buttons so that clicking one automatically stops any songs which are already playing? gramophone does it that way, and i thought it was a nice touch for those browsing in a hurry.

  10. Ryan Catbird says:

Sorry kittens, the player is just a simple plug-in and I can’t get inside it to edit functionality like that.

  11. Dee says:

Well, I gotta say I’ve also given into this Micachu fever.

Pretty good. May more success come their way. Thanks for the suggestion!
