Listen@MBV: Crocodiles – “Summer of Hate”

This week sees the release of Summer of Hate, the debut LP from San Diego’s Crocodiles, and we’ve got the album streaming here — it’s our new Listen@MBV entry — all week. These guys are a Cut-And-Paste Era dark wave/VU/JAMC bricolage, and this record should bring just the right amount of cold, black darkness to your sunny Springtime week.

Apoptosis

Intelligence - “Pony People” It's Friday night, and I'm in line again for the bathroom. Unwisely, an unknown (to me) world government organization has decided, sometime in the last year or so, to toilet train the entire world. But, like, everything. Dogs and cats were the easiest, then rodents, birds, and bugs. Large mammals and large reptiles, bears elephants crocs and gilas, have all learned to use the bathroom in an anthropoid manner. Weirdly enough, this was effective in eliminating old notions of property, since you're constantly barraged with animals big and small, ringing your doorbell and politely asking to use the loo, meanwhile, 15 of their friends are sneaking in your window to hog the commode. Futurists are predicting the Toilet Wars will arise within the next year or so, erupting most likely, they say, from a breakdown of one of the very lines I'm currently standing in. But we all know, this won't be a war for Toilets, as the politicians will try to portray it, it will be a war for the hearts and minds of all dignified entities on earth, wishing to eliminate their waste in a dignified way. And that is something worth fighting for.

Arrows, and arrows, and arrows, and arrows. And eros. And arrows.

[MySpace. Out May 26 on the increasingly unstoppable In The Red Records]

New Passion Pit MP3, “Moth’s Wings”

Passion Pit – “Moth’s Wings” From Manners, out 5/26 on French Kiss.

Update 4/28: See the comment below, someone claiming to represent Sony Music France (their email address is a fake, btw) is asking for removal of this “copyrighted file”– however, this track has clearly been authorized for internet posting by Passion Pit’s U.S. label, French Kiss. Sony Music France, if you have a problem with this, you need to contact French Kiss Records and work it out. This is not an issue of “a blog leaking a track illegally;” this is an issue of antiquated and unworkable music rights practices, and an issue of 2 labels with joint interests not communicating with one another.

Explode Into Colors – “Sean Rocky Zach and Dekum”

Explode Into Colors

Explode Into Colors - “Sharpen the Knife” I piled on the praise for Explode Into Colors back in March (and, awesomely, have seen many others follow suit (particularly following their SXSW appearances)), and though I noted that they had a 7-inch for “Eyes, Hands, Mouth” lined up for release on KRS later this summer, what I didn’t know was this: they have a release out now. The Explode Into Colors Sean Rocky Zach and Dekum Tape is, you guessed it, a cassette, and features 8 songs for $5. Grab it at the EIC Myspace. They have a pretty sweet T-shirt available there too.
