New Broken Records MP3: A Darkness Rises Up

Broken Records
Broken Records – “A Darkness Rises Up” In January, the new LP from Ediburgh’s Broken Records (their second for 4AD) will hit US shores– here’s a brand new MP3 to give you a taste. “A Darkness Rises Up” is the same single that got a lovely video treatment just a few weeks back; check it out:

It’s also worth mentioning that the new record (titled Let Me Come Home, btw) features cover art by legendary 4AD designer Vaughan Oliver, and also, there’s another free MP3 you can grab, “A Leaving Song,” over at the 4AD site.

Let Me Come Home is out in the UK already, but antiquated territorial licensing restrictions being what they are, we’re just gonna have to wait for January 11 here stateside…

The Montreal Mirror profiles Braids.

"That Brooklyn band has spawned many copyists, but few, if any, possess the power of Standell-Preston's voice, which ranges from the coo of a Disney princess to the scream of a behemoth banshee. Then there are Braids' meta-melodies, textured flutters and undulations, clever, furtive rhythms and delicate, detailed segues, taking the subtlest of cues from contemporary classical, electronic, jazz, pop and world music. It's a modern sound that promises to become timeless."
